How I Prepare for a New Year in My Business

What’s so interesting is that I am always telling business owners what they need to be doing to move the needle in their businesses that sometimes I forget to share my own BDPs – best demonstrated practices.

Because I have built a business that serves and supports me financially and spiritually, I thought it would be good to show what I do in order to prepare for a new year in my business. I think you’ll love how I make sure that we position ourselves to exceed our goals. This process is why we’ve experienced growth each year at Incredible One Enterprises since its inception in 2008.

Watch this week’s episode of Incredible Factor TV:

As mentioned in the episode, here are my best demonstrated practices for preparing for a new year:

1. Strategic planning with my team. This one is huge. We always carve out one day in December to review the strategic plan that I created. During this time, we discuss our SWOT Analysis and we finalize the marketing calendar. We clarify roles and responsibilities on the team and we determine what, if anything, we need to hit our stretch goals for the new year.

2. Review my family of brands – their effectiveness, the results, and the overall look and feel of them. December is a great time to ensure that your brand presence is exactly what you want it to be. If you’re a multi-faceted brand like I am, it’s always good to evaluate not just on each brand’s effectiveness, but also make sure that although they are different, they are still cohesive and on point with your overall vision, goals and objectives. I typically do this alone as well as with my team to ensure that we all feel warm and fuzzy about my family of brands.

3. Mastermind and strategize with key colleagues and mentors. In addition to your team, it’s so important to spend time with people you trust, who know your business acumen and can hold you accountable to your purpose and I spend time doing that every year in December. I don’t know it all; I can’t do it all by myself and I am unapologetic to go and get the support I need to make it all happen.

4. Update my vision boards for the New Year. Clarifying your vision is so essential personally and professionally. I keep the following vision boards and I spend time in December updating each of them:

  • Vision for Darnyelle, the brand
  • Vision for Darnyelle, the CEO (and what I want for my company)
  • Vision for Darnyelle, the woman
  • Vision for Darnyelle, the future wife

After I update each board, as I share in the episode, I write thank you letters to God in advance of giving me what I envision.

5. Make one last attempt to low hanging fruit to help them solve the problem they have leveraging my support and services. Please don’t sleep. December should be your best month each year. Everyone is looking for one more strategy that they can use to earn one more tax deduction on for the end of the year. By making one last call to key low hanging fruit in December, we always exceed our monthly goal.

Now I want to hear from you: What’s your two cents? What are your best-demonstrated practices for preparing for a new year in your life? What would you suggest that others do that you’ve done that have served you well?
